★隅田川沿いの桜と船員教育発祥の地記念碑の話題でございます★

ここ東京では最近ようかく暖かくなってまいりましたよね。朝と日中の温度差もス少しづつ縮まってきているようでして、今後安定した気温と気候が望めるのではないでしょうか？

さて、数日前になりますが、隅田川沿いの桜を楽しむために久しぶりに「永代橋」方面に向かいました。「永代橋」は当ホテルから永代通りを日本橋方面に向かい約15分ぐらいの所にございます。

「永代橋」を渡り中央区側の隅田川沿いには満開の桜を楽しむことができました。しかし少しづつ桜が散り始めていて、これが今年最後の花見になるのではと思います。

美しい桜を眺めながら隅田川テラス沿いを「中央大橋」の方へ足を向けました。中央大橋と壮大な高層マンション群をバックに、満開の桜並木の列が土手沿いに続いております。

再び「永代橋」に戻りますと、永代通り付近に「船員教育発祥之地」という記念碑を発見いたしました。

明治8年に三菱財閥の岩崎弥太郎は大久保利通の即刻の船員教育の提唱により命を受け、ここに三菱商船学校を設立。のちの東京商船大学の前身となりました。永代橋の下流に係留した船内に学生が起居して船員教育が始まったそうです。

今回は美しい桜を堪能しながら記念碑から色々と勉強をさせていただき、一度に二度美味しい思いをさせていただきました。

"Cherry Blossoms along the Sumida River and the Memorial of the Place for Origin of Sailors' Education"

I went to the Eitai Bridge to enjoy viewing beautiful cherry blossoms along the Sumida River. It is approximately 15 minutes from our hotel to the Bridge on foot. Cherry blossoms there were in full bloom, however, some blossoms have started falling one by one. I thought this was the last chance to view them this year.

I found the Memorial of the Place for Origin of Sailors' Education near Eitai Street. Potaro Iwasaki of Plutocracy Mitsubishi established a mercantile marine school by proposal of receiving order for immediate sailor education by Toshimichi Okubo in 1875. There was a ship moored downstream of the Eitai Bridge and he started education for sailors there.
